My place to ramble.

I got a call back from Wayne Farms today. He (the HR guy) said the everyone enjoyed their conversations with me and I come "highly recommended" and wanted to know if I was still interested in the job. He also said that the head of the plant wasn't in this week, but when he got back, they would "try to put an offer together." He then said that he would call me next week.
So, hopfully I will have a job soon. That will be nice to not have to worry about it anymore, get out of school and make some money...do something productive. I wonder what the offer will be...will it be decent?

This from an article on the history of dissent during wartime:
"Dissenters spoke out against virtually every subsequent conflict. The humiliating defeats of the War of 1812 made that fight so unpopular that the states of New England considered seceding from the Union. A generation later, many Americans viewed the Mexican-American War (not unreasonably) as an act of naked U.S. aggression. In 1848, shortly after the war's conclusion, Congress censured President James Polk for "unnecessarily and unconstitutionally" commencing hostilities. Supporting the rebuke was Illinois Rep. Abraham Lincoln, who attacked Polk as 'a bewildered, confounded and miserably perplexed man.'"
The use of Lincoln in this article seems slightly oxymoronic. His record on dealing with anti-war protestors is dismal.

There has been alot of talk today about the Russian GPS jammers. One Hand Clapping discusses why it won't work. Boortz was railing on the Russians and the UN today, but what's new?
Boortz should have stayed a libertarian.
Link from Sgt. Stryker, who knows where that link came from.

Ok, I lied, I'm back. Here is a great article on introverts.
"How can I let the introvert in my life know that I support him and respect his choice?
First, recognize that it's not a choice. It's not a lifestyle. It's an orientation.
Second, when you see an introvert lost in thought, don't say "What's the matter?" or "Are you all right?"
Third, don't say anything else, either.
**edit, where did I see this originally? I posted a thanks feedback...if anyone know where I got it, or if you are looking from there...drop me line w/ a link...thanks**

This from the Angry Clam about the hand grenade attacker. Evidently he's a muslim and maybe black.
"Still, I have the perfect solution for this bastard: return him to his platoon. Problem solved."
I actually really like that solution. I don't know military justice, but a long term stay at Levinworth(sp?) or execution seem appropriate.
This whole war thing is really starting to make me remember, with a bit of fondness, my days as a red blooded american child reading military fiction and all the non-fiction books in the library about the US air force. I still don't think that this war is even borderline a good idea; but man, do I love jet fighters and heavy munitions. I get as giddy as a school girl when I see a F-18 put on its afterburners and jump off a carrier.
It disturbingly similar to the Two Minute Hate where everyone is whipped into a frenzy. Or as Orwell puts it: "A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledgehammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one's will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic." (italics added)
No wonder the approval rating of the president goes up during war.

I was watching the History channel at a friends house yesterday. There was a really cool program called "Stealth Secrets." It gave a run down of our stealth aircraft programs. They made a statement about a Pentagon report during the Cold War that said that our air force would have been wiped out in 17 days if there had been a conflict with the Soviets. I'm looking for this report, sounds like interesting reading. Anyone out there know where I can find it? If I ever find it, the I'll link to it.

I saw a bumper sticker on a car a few minutes ago. It said, "Watch for Bicycles."
Great message, it feel scary to almost get run over when on a bike, and I'd feel bad if I damaged my car by hitting a bike. The thing is, I got this up close and personal view of the bumper and subsequent sticker when the dude slipped through a stop sign and cut me off. How about a sticker that says "Watch for cars...especially large ones." What was going through his head? "Hmm...no bike coming, it must be safe. That large blue Grand Marqius must just be a mirage...lets pull out and almost get rear ended."
So, I went out drinking Friday...a last attempt at salvaging some memory of partying on spring break. Yeah, I ended up in the still being constructed student learning center exploring. Neat place, lots of mud. Note to self, if the handle says push to open, don't push unless you want to attract attention. The doors started to open automatically and I heard the faint sounds of an alarm panel downstairs. Yes, running followed. Thankfully the guy in the University Astrovan didn't see us while we were running out of the building. My friend lost her show in the mud. After the coast was clear, I went back to look for it. Another note to self, looking for lost items in the mud, at 2:00am and drunk is not a productive way to fins things. My friend ended up walking back barefoot. If she'd been in the kitchen, it would have been perfect. (yes, that was a joke)
