Very interesting FEA paper. But does it even come close to modeling the real situation? When I was taking the class, I had to make so many simplifications that my models were crap...junk in, junk out.
I'm not criticizing the professor, I have extreme respect for finite element analysis. I'm just wondering how the various simplifications affect the results.
The biggest problem with all this stuff is that there must be lots of people who worked on the construction/design/maintenance of the buildings must be around...I would think if the official line was complete B.S. then someone would say something...thats just my gut feeling.
...we used Algor FEA software.

More stemming from the email from Jason, this is a gov't engineering report on the towers and their failure, I understand a good bit of it, but it would make more sense if I was structural, not bio. It is interesting that they assume a temperature of 1100 degrees C. I have no knowledge of fire mechanics...I don't know if this is reasonable. This page says that a temp of 1100 isn't reasonable. He uses some basic chemistry/thermodynamics to get his numbers. I've read over it once and it seems reasonable, but if I get the time I'd like to go through it.
Here is the main page with some interesting reading material. I'll get through it all eventually. Maybe downloading the whole site would be worth it.
